SYNOPSIS
Four high school teachers embark on a sociological experiment in which each of them must maintain the level of alcohol in their body at the same level, during their daily lives, trying to prove that they can improve in all aspects of their lives. .
THE CRITICISM
“The initial approach causes a smile and solidarity with these revolutionaries who believe they find in Bacchus the shipwrecked table for their existential dissatisfaction”
One of the teachers ofAnother Round proposes to his bewildered students that they discover the identity of three legendary alcoholics, of people who spent their transcendent existence blowing alcohol.
They are Churchill, Hemingway, and American Civil War hero Ulysses Grant. But the kids also do not know who was a militantly abstemious politician and full of love for animals and children. It was Hitler. This comparison between drunks and sobers that have gone down in history can be biased and facile. In any case, the protagonists of this complex and excellent film follow the advice, although they do not know it, that Baudelaire once offered to his peers: “Get drunk on wine, poetry or virtue, but get drunk”.
They are high school teachers and also old and close friends. His daily life is greyish. They stopped dreaming a long time ago, their joy abandoned them, there is only inertia, boredom and resignation in the face of their work and their family and social relationships, the certainty of feeling alone. After an alcoholic and very fun dinner, they will propose to ingest without haste and without pauses, daily, the sufficient amount of alcohol in their body, with the intention of regaining vitality, desire, communication with the people they love and with the students. . They want to banish inner isolation, be creative, confirm the joy of living. And the programmed alcohol offers them that point, everything seems to work, nothing is artificial or empty. But after the fleeting days of wine and roses, chaos will come, the chaos, the fearsome hangovers, the mono, the alarming loss of mood control, the consequent reproach of his surroundings, the daily vertigo, sentimental abandonment, terror.

Another round is co-written and directed by Thomas Vinterberg, founder of Dogma, creator of a cinema that is as original as it is disturbing, author of films that move you, that make you feel and think, such as the bittersweet Celebration and the terrible allegation about the moral lynching of a innocent man in The Hunt. In its latest installment, the initial approach provokes the smile and solidarity of the viewer with these revolutionaries who believe they find in Bacchus the shipwrecked table for their existential dissatisfaction. But our laughter freezes as we witness the bill they must pay for their transgression.
