Benalmádena resumes its traditional Turkey Race on Sunday, December 19

After a year of forced stoppage due to the pandemic, the Turkey Race returns next Sunday, December 19, in which it celebrates its 38th edition.

“This test is the great race of Benalmádena, with an impact that goes beyond the municipality,” declared the mayor, Víctor Navas, who recalled his participation in the first edition of the event, “when we were passing through the areas of Béjar or Tivoli and at that time everything was open because there was practically nothing built, and the race has evolved and grown with Benalmádena throughout all these years ”.

According to the mayor, -which highlighted the figure of Juan Carlos Maestro as the promoter of the initiative, and thanked Civil Protection for its collaboration- “It is a healthy event, of a playful-festive nature in which you can run even in disguise, solidarity because to participate you have to donate two kilos of food to Caritas, and in which the Benalmádena business fabric he is involved, an aspect that we appreciate because without his participation it would be very difficult to organize it ”.

For his part, the Councilor for Sports, Joaquín Villazón, said that “we want to remember and value the figure of the recently retired former Sports Technical Director Juan Carlos Maestro, who was responsible for organizing the race during all previous editions.”

Villazón has stressed that the test will be held in accordance with all the mandatory health security measures. “The two most difficult moments would be the start of the race and the awards ceremony, and therefore the departure we will do it at intervals, and not all participants at the same time, as was usual; and the delivery of awards will be held outdoors, with social distance and the use of masks ”, he clarified.

The technical conditions will be similar to those of previous editions, with departure and arrival at the sports center and an urban route of 4.5 kilometers through the center of Arroyo de la Miel.

In the words of the Director of Sports Activities of the Sports Delegation, Andrés Luengo, “the Carrera del Pavo is the most important popular sports event in the province of Málaga, which has already accumulated 38 editions with the participation of all citizens and one not a competitive philosophy, but a great social and family event ”.

The startof the race will take place at 11:00 am from the Arroyo de la Miel sports center. “The test will also have an adapted circuit for people with functional diversity,” Luengo recalled.

Registration can be done online, and the numbers can be collected from the moment of registration.

The Benalmádena Merchants and Entrepreneurs Association (ACEB) has been sponsoring this test since 1988. According to its president, Rosa María González, “it is a very participatory race, which is already part of the identity of Benalmádena.”
