Doctor Yusuf Hamied and the educational community will be ‘Benalmadense of the year 2021’

The Plenary has unanimously approved a motion by the government team to declare Benalmadense of the year 2021 to Dr. Yusuf Hamied and the entire educational community of the municipality.

Through the figure ofBenalmadense of the Year, the Benalmádena corporate plenary session annually honors those people who have stood out for their activity, their civic example or their contribution to the community. In the words of the Councilor for Culture and Education, Pablo Centella, “on this occasion we consider that this recognition should go to the person of Dr. Yusuf Hamied for his bond and solidarity with the Foundation’s Palliative Care Center Cudeca on the one hand; and to the entire educational community on the other, after their impressive behavior during the most difficult moments of the Covid-19 pandemic ”.

Yusuf Hamied is internationally recognized as an entrepreneur of the pharmaceutical company CIPLA and for his defense of generic drugs, especially in less developed countries. In addition, it collaborates with many other solidarity and cultural projects, among which the CIPLAPalliative Care Center in Pune, India stands out, which shares with Cudeca the need for comprehensive care at the end of life and also offers specialized training to professionals.

Gracias a su donación, Cudeca will finance the construction of the Yusuf Hamied Center for Studies and Research in Palliative Care, a facility with which Benalmádena has established itself as an international benchmark in the field of palliative care.

“The Spanish educational system, and by extension the Andalusian and Benalmadense, had to reinvent itself by forced marches so that the impact caused by the pandemic on the new generations and their educational level was as low as possible,” Centella recalled.

Along these lines, the IU councilor has stressed that “at first, adapting to confinement using the available telematic systems, managing, not with difficulties, to finish the school year paying special attention to those students who did not have the means, trying distribute the study materials directly to those families who could not access the new technologies ”.

In September 2020, face-to-face classes were resumed with many doubts and fears, applying a large number of prevention measures that put the entire educational community to the test.

“The management teams and teachers had to apply them in centers that were not adapted to an absolutely unknown situation, non-teaching personnel had to work in conditions of great uncertainty, mothers and fathers had to make the effort to prepare their children for a reality that they had never faced and these, our children and adolescents had to adapt to circumstances that made it difficult and in what way their academic learning and socialization with the rest of their classmates and teachers ”, Centella underlined.

“Days, weeks and months went by checking how the educational community as a whole has been giving us a real lesson to the rest of society: The management teams and the teaching staff have shown a commendable dedication and added effort, the non-teaching staff has multiplied to meet the new demands, the mothers and fathers have adapted in a determined way to the rhythms that the situation demanded and, finally , the students, from the youngest to the teenagers, have given a test of maturity and adaptation that has surprised locals and strangers ”, the Councilor for Education has valued.
