Gaza, today. Issa, a sixty-year-old fisherman, is secretly in love with Siham, a woman who works in the market with her daughter Leila. When he discovers an ancient phallic statue of Apollo in his fishing nets, Issa hides it, not knowing what to do with this mysterious and powerful treasure. However, deep down, he feels that this discovery will change his life forever. Interestingly, his confidence begins to grow and he finally decides to get closer to Siham.

“A refined work that offers an ironic vision of the Gaza Strip. It is a fable about autumn love with a narrative sheltered in plot simplicity. Despite the drama, it is almost a comedy”

Few settings less associated with romanticism than the Gaza Strip. Perhaps because of this, the Nasser brothers have turned it into a territory where a love story in middle age can also grow unexpectedly, here between a single veteran fisherman and a widowed dressmaker. The directors cultivate with care and patience this autumnal romance, sober and humble, in a tone in tune with the realistic context in which the film is inscribed.

Although it focuses on the relationship between the two protagonists, Gaza mon amour also paints as a background landscape a not very encouraging panorama of the situation in this area of Palestine, from the daily restrictions through the social repression of women to the lack of horizons for the younger generations.

And at the same time it introduces a vein of underground humor, especially around the story of the periapical statue of Apollo. At times, the film borders the fine line that separates the endearing from the ancient, but before everything celebrates the possibility of love as a refuge even in the most hostile context.

Delicate and with a bitter touch that does not overshadow its jovial spirit, Gaza mon amour delicate and with a bitter touch that does not overshadow its jovial spirit, And the Nassers don’t miss the opportunity to send a message to the world, either. From television, a talkative states: “No one has a development strategy for Gaza. Not the Palestinian authorities, not Hamas, not the other political parties. Neither did Jordan, Egypt, Turkey, Qatar, the United States and the Arab League. No one has it”.
