The mayor and councilor for Foreign Residents of Benalmádena, Víctor Navas, participated this morning in the celebration of the institutional act of Remembrance Day, which took place next to the Peace Tree in Parque de la Paloma. Remembrance Day is celebrated every November 11, the date that marked the end of World War I in 1918, to commemorate the sacrifices of members of the armed forces and civilians in times of war.
“Today, November 11 at 11:00 a.m. we celebrate the end of a fratricidal war between brother peoples: may this recognition serve as a tribute to honor all the individuals and families who suffered this conflict, and to appeal to the responsibility of the entire society to build a better world, in which never again will a war of this size take place ”, declared the mayor.
In addition to the mayor, the event was attended by the United States Consul, Roberta Aaron; the Vice Consul of the United Kingdom, Dominic Jackson; Prisca Vanier Clapisson, representative of Unión des Français de l’Etranger; the president of the Royal British Legión, Neal Adam Toplis; and the representative of The Welsh Society Costa del Sol, Gary Benham, as master of ceremonies. The event also had representatives of groups such as Royal Air Force,and theIrish Association of Spain .
Along with the intervention of the mayor and the representatives of foreign groups, two pipers have interpreted a piece before the mandatory minute of silence and the floral offering at the Tree of Peace.
