The mayor of Benalmádena, Víctor Navas; and the Councilor for Sports, Joaquín Villazón, have received this morning at the Mayor’s Office Laura Tomé, a young athlete from Benalmadena who has proclaimed European champion in the senior individual modality in the  Senior and Junior European Championships ITFtaekwondo held in La Nucia (Alicante), an information that Ole Benalmádena published exclusively on the same day that the young woman won European gold, as well as days later her classification in third position in team matches.

“We are very proud of Laura Tomé for her triumph in the European Taekwondo Championship, which once again demonstrates the great sporting level that exists in Benalmádena”, the mayor celebrated, who also highlighted that the young woman is “an example and a reference for many young people in Benalmádena, since he is capable of achieving medals in the European championships without neglecting his studies, thus demonstrating his talent and discipline ”.

This morning is not the first reception that the athlete receives at the City Hall because, according to the Councilor for Sports, “every year she achieves important sports triumphs, and this year she has achieved spectacular success by proclaiming herself European champion.”

“For me it is a great pride to receive Laura again, and we congratulate her for the important role she is playing in European taekwondo, being an example for all athletes in the municipality and acting as Benalmádena’s ambassador in international events” , has valued Villazón.

For her part, the young athlete commented that “I have been competing since I was six years old: all the hours of training and effort are paying off.” Tomé confessed that “it still makes my hair stand on end when I remember my experience in the European championship.”

The athlete has valued the Benalmádena Doyang Center Club “like a family”, and has announced that she will soon participate in the European Championship in Croatia, “although my most important objective is the World Cup in Finland.”

For his part, his instructor and head of the Benalmádena Doyang Center Club, Maximiliano Montiel, recalled that he has been training Laura Tomé since she was six years old, “and it has always given me great satisfaction.”

Montiel stressed that it is the first international medal achieved by the club in about four years.

Maximiliano Montiel has thanked “the many expressions of support and affection that we have received during these days”.
