The mayor of Benalmádena, Víctor Navas; the Councilor for Town Planning, María Isabel Ruiz; and the Councilor for Mobility, Javier Marín, held an informal meeting yesterday afternoon with the minister of Transport, Mobility and the Urban Agenda, Raquel Sánchez, taking advantage of her visit to Malaga. A meeting in which the mayor asked for the Government’s commitment to promote the creation of a new Cercanías station in Nueva Torrequebrada.
“Yesterday, together with the minister, we evaluated the three proposals put forward by Adif for the construction of the halt in Nueva Torrequebrada, a historic claim that has had its greatest momentum in recent months”, explained the mayor.
Navas recalled that Adif in 2020 reported that the station was not viable some time ago, nor was it at that time, “since the profitability threshold was above ten years, and it meant generating a delay in the rest of the stops of this Cercanías line, which made the infrastructure practically unfeasible”.
“But from the municipal government we have continued to insist, and through a meeting held in January 2022, we managed to get Adif to carry out new demand, feasibility and capacity studies to assess how circumstances had changed since 2020 with a view to commissioning march of the new halt ”, has detailed.
The studies have not yielded conclusive results, but the break-even point has improved. “In our meeting with the minister, we stressed the importance of making this station a reality in Benalmádena, and for her part, she conveyed the same message to us as in our last technical meeting with Adif: the first step would be to address the change in the urban classification of the land for them to go from a green area to equipment, and thus provide the halt with a parking area”; the mayor has pointed out.
In the meeting held yesterday, according to Navas, “we managed to get the minister to commit that, once the urban redevelopment is complete, the Government will reassess the construction of the new halt in Nueva Torrequebrada.”
The mayor was optimistic in this regard “when verifying the existing interest on the part of the Ministry of Transport, and for our part we have already started the administrative procedures for the change of qualification of the land, and from there continue promoting the creation of this new Cercanías stop”.
