More than 20% of those registered in Benalmádena are minors

The mayor of Benalmádena, Víctor Navas; and the Councilor for General Administration, Sergio Torralvo, have offered a press conference this morning to report on the recent update of the registry data, after the latest data received from the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

The data show that Benalmádena has already passed that barrier of 70,000 inhabitants, “although we still have to reach the 75,000 registered Benalmadena residents and thus be considered a municipality with a large population,” the mayor announced.

However, Navas has clarified that “the figures we have in our Municipal Register amount to more than 73,000 registered inhabitants: that difference between our data and those of the INE is due to foreign residents, since there are still many without being registered.”

The first mayor also stressed that “by the workers of this City Council an immense work has been carried out in recent years to update our registry, refining the figures so that it really appears who resides in the city.”

The mayor has encouraged citizens who still do not register to carry out this procedure “because the income we receive through transfers from other administrations, such as the Government or the Junta de Andalucía depends on it.”

Specifically, as of January 1, 2021, the municipal register shows a number of registered inhabitants of 70,204 people, a figure that represents an increase of 1,060 registered with respect to 2020.

According to INE data, in 2020 there were 424 deaths and 498 births, and “the statistics show that Benalmádena is a municipality with a young population, since more than 20% of the registered population is under 18 years of age,” Torralvo highlighted.

“These same data reflect that Benalmádena is an attractive municipality to live in, where the number of registrations in the register is much higher than the number of registrations in recent years,” said the councilor.

From 2006 to 2021, the population of Benalmádena has increased by more than 40%, and in the last two years it has shown a growth of 2,076 people.

“We continue working on campaigns so that the number of registered residents continues to rise, and by 2022 we plan to launch one aimed at registering foreign residents, highlighting the tax benefits and other advantages of various kinds that they would obtain ”, the councilor has advanced, who encouraged non-registered residents to go through the Citizen Service Office in both Arroyo de la Miel and Benalmádena Pueblo to manage their registration and obtain those Benefits.
