The President of the Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Moreno, has appointed a new director of Education and Sport at Manuel Alejandro Cardenete Flores, in lieu of the deceased Javier Imbroda. The appointment has been published in the Official Gazette of the Junta de Andalucía, dated April 5, 2022.
Manuel Alejandro Cardenete was until the moment of his appointment, and since the beginning of the current legislature, Deputy Minister of Tourism, Regeneration, Justice and Local Administration of the Junta de Andalucía, as well as a member of the Committee of the Regions in the European Union and president of NECSTouR (European Regions for Competitive and Sustanaible Tourism). He is a professor of Economics and in recent years has been vice-rector of Postgraduate Studies and director of the Loyola Leadership School of the Universidad Loyola Andalucía. He obtained his degree in Economics and Business (1994) at the University of Seville (Spain), the Doctorate in Economics (2000) at the University of Huelva (Spain) and Diploma in Senior Management (2011) at the San Telmo International Institute (Seville). ). He is also vice president of the Sociedad Hispanoamericana Input-Output and academic of the Andalusian Academy of Regional Science. In 2019 he was elected Collegiate Economist of the Year by the Illustrious College of Economists of Seville.
Principal Investigator of the Research Group CLIMAMODEL SEJ-511 (Multisectoral Models for Climate Change), researcher associated with EUREAL (European Union Regional Economics Applications Laboratory), of GReCS (Computer and Simulation Research Group) of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (Spain) and the Chair of Energy Economics and the Environment of the Sevilla University. He is also Distinguished Research Professor at HISPAREAL (Hispalis Regional Economics Applications Laboratory) and Associate Researcher at the CISE-Autonomous University of Coahuila (Mexico).
He has been deputy director of the Menéndez y Pelayo University (2001-2004), general director of the Fundación Universidad–Society of the Pablo de Olavide University (2004-2006), general director of Coordination and Administrative Organization of the Universidad Pablo de Olavide (2006-2007), executive Vice President of Foundations Universidad Pablo de Olavide (University-Society Foundation, Knowledge and Culture Foundation and Pablo de Olavide Municipalities Foundation) and CEO of UPOGEST, S.L., a service company of the Universidad Pablo de Olavide (2007-2011). In the Universidad Loyola was director of its Department of Economics (2013-2016).
He has been Visiting Research Scholar of the Regional Economics Applications Laboratory -REAL- of the Universidad de Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (EEUU) in 2002 and of the Universitat Autònoma of Barcelona in 1998. He has also worked as a technical advisor for the Ministry of Economy of the Junta de Andalucía in matters of CGE and SAM models (2002-2005 and 2007-2009), councilor of the Economic and Social Council of the Seville City Council (2009-2012), councilor of the Institute of Cartography and Statistics of Andalusia (2015-2018), president of the Business Strategy Commission of the Confederation of Entrepreneurs of Andalusia (2014-2018), president of the Economy Commission of the College of Economists of Seville (2018-2019), president of the Analysis and Prospective Commission of the Confederation of Entrepreneurs of Andalusia (2019) and president of the Andalusian Association of Regional Science (2014-2020).
