Reading clubs return to the Manuel Altolaguirre Public Library

The reading clubs of the Manuel Altolaguirre Public Library of Benalmádena Pueblo have resumed their activity this fall. The mayor of Culture, Pablo Centella, has stressed that “although you cannot lower your guard yet because the virus is still present and the situation can get out of control at any time, little by little we are recovering a certain normality in terms of cultural activities ”.

These reading clubs have been active for 21 years and have met on the last Tuesday of each month. Specifically, the members of the Lectoras group meet at 11 a.m. and Concha Méndez at 6 p.m.

Centella took advantage of the presentation of the new season of these clubs for readers to thank “the work done by the libraries and their directors and workers.”

“The promotion of reading is one of the main functions of our libraries, which are much more than mere warehouses of books or study rooms, playing an essential role in the cultural revitalization of the municipality”, has valued the councilor.

The Club de Lectoras, coordinated by Ana García Palomo and Maite Barreda Palomo, this year will propose four books this semester: ‘Story of a staircase’ by Buero Vallejo, ‘The color of silence’ by Elia Barceló, ‘The labyrinth of olives’ by Eduardo Mendoza and ‘The reader’ by Bernhard Schlink. “The books for the clubs come to us thanks to the contribution of the Andalusian Center for Letters, which the Manuel Altolaguir Public Library reading clubs offer us a list of titles to carry out these activities,” said the director of the Manuel Altolaguirre public library, Inés García.
