Singer Betty Missiego will have a roundabout with her name on it

The municipal plenary session has unanimously approved a file of Honors and Distinctions for the singer Betty Missiego, in order to culminate it by baptizing a roundabout with the artist’s name. Specifically, it will be the one located at the confluence of Avenida del Sol and Avenida de la Armada, the main exit from Torremuelle to the coast road.

“It is a privilege for Benalmádena to have the active presence of Betty Missiego in the city, and with this distinction we support the popular feeling and the gratitude of the people of Benalmádena for the fact that this great lady of the song chose our town to settle after a long and successful professional career ”, has valued the mayor, Víctor Navas.

For his part, the councilor of Culture, Pablo Centella, stressed that “Betty Missiego was integrated into our municipality from the first day, being an ambassador for Benalmádena wherever she goes, with her manifest devotion to the Virgen del Carmen, with her selfless participation in a multitude of events and solidarity acts of different local groups ”.

Among the artistic achievements of the singer, her first prize for Interpretation at the famous Benidorm Song Festival, and the second prize at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1979, in addition to her performances at the Olympia in Paris, the top stage of world music stand out. The artist retired in 2015 with a memorable concert at the Cervantes Theater in Malaga.

The motorhome area will be named after Doctor Valderrama

In the same way, it was also approved to name as Doctor Valderrama the new motorhome area recently inaugurated in the Arroyo de la Miel fairgrounds, thus making a well-deserved recognition of the figure of Lorenzo Valderrama Fernández.

“He is a person whom we all love and respect: a doctor who has cared for many families in Benalmádena throughout his medical career, including many of the councilors who are in this Plenary session today”, has valued the mayor of Benalmádena, Víctor Navas.

Lorenzo Valderrama Fernández began to practice as a doctor in the town after finishing his studies in Madrid. They assigned him patients from Arroyo de la Miel, which was beginning to grow rapidly, and took care of all the emergencies, home visits and consultations. According to municipal sources, “it was a constant job, without day or night, without vacations or weekends, with sleep interruptions every night up to two or three times. He spent five years without taking a single day of vacation, thinking only of the patients who would be left unattended ”.

In the mid-1970s he founded the Nautical Club, of which he has been president for more than 20 years. The conjunction of very competitive children, very collaborative parents and an excellent group of friends that made up the Board of Directors, made the Club Náutico of Benalmádena ranked at the top of the ranking in Andalusia and Spain. After his retirement, he decided to undertake another great project: the creation of a recreational area for caravan tourism, which from now on will bear his name.
