The Ateneo Librede Benalmádena recovers its face-to-face activity. As a novelty, according to its president, Jesús Lobillos, “we are going to include a new concept of dissemination of knowledge, in collaboration with the Más Madera film club consisting of film-forums”. Thus, in each cinema-forum a film will be screened, and there will be a subsequent debate with guests related to the theme.
This cultural entity, which has maintained its activity electronically during the months of restrictions due to the pandemic, resumes its face-to-face agenda with the programming of a series of talks and events that, in the opinion of the Culture Councilor, Pablo Centella, “will contribute to raise the level of knowledge and critical capacity of citizens, providing a space where they can calmly reflect on important issues, something very valuable in these times where we live everything with great speed ”.
For his part, Lobillos recalled that “the Ateneo Libre de Benalmádena was created with the purpose of spreading culture, disseminating and making available to citizens a series of knowledge and reflections on current problems for discussion, clarifying concepts and avoiding prejudices to achieve a better society ”.
Likewise, Lobillos, who thanked the City Council for the transfer of a venue to the Athenaeum, has made a call for citizen participation in the Athenaeum “to form the basis of our humanistic and intellectual structure”.
The first gathering will be held tomorrow Wednesday and will focus on the relations between society, culture and politics. Next Wednesday, October 13, the Athenaeum will address feminism, with the participation of the former Councilor for Culture and Education, Elena Galán. Physical culture, sports, Emilia Pardo Bazán or rental problems will be some of the topics that will be debated throughout this first quarter.
