Next November will be no less than 30 years since Vicente Aranda’s film club Más Madera proyectara Amantes. The cultural association has been bringing the best auteur cinema to Benalmades for three decades, away from the usual proposals of the most commercial cinemas, in a firm commitment to culture. In addition, it is an obligatory norm that they collaborate and get involved in the agenda that the cultural fabric of the city organizes throughout the year, even beyond the field of celluloid. After a long hiatus motivated by the improvement works in the Casa de la Cultura assembly hall, and by the restrictions that the pandemic brought with it, next Thursday Más Madera resumes its activity with a new day of cinema.
Thus, the most cinephiles will be able to enjoy this Thursday from 9:00 p.m., the film Sentimental by Cesc Gay, a comedy in which they will have fun with the most beloved faces of Spanish cinema, such as Belén Cuesta, Javier Cámara or Alberto San Juan.
The Farewelly and The forgetfulness that we will be, -recent winner of the Platinum Awards-, are other films that will make up this first cycle after the return of the Benalmadense cinema-club. Regarding the agenda that they have programmed for this fall, its president, Enrique Garrido, explained that “we will once again collaborate with the FICCAB, and we will sponsor one of their awards; and we will also participate in the Benalmádena Flamenco Week showing a film related to this genre, Menese, focused on the figure and life of this great cantaor ”.
Likewise, the cultural association reported that within its line of work, once a quarter they will organize daytime screenings for secondary school students, although, Garrido pointed out that due to the pandemic, they will wait a few months to start with this activity.
For his part, the vice president of the cinema-club, Vladimir Merino, has reported on some of the parallel activities of the new season. “This year we will celebrate a double centenary: the birth of Luis García-Berlanga and Fernando Fernán-Gómez, which is why the film expert Santiago Losada will visit us again to offer us a lecture on the life and work of Berlanga, as well as project Calabuch”, he advanced.
On the occasion of the celebration of the tenth anniversary of the end of terrorism in Spain, Más Madera will organize a cinema-forum in collaboration with the Ateneo Libre de Benalmádena, which will include screenings of films related to the subject and the visit of figures such as the journalist Luis Rodríguez Aizpeolea and Jesús Eguiguren.
Climate change and the figure of Ramón J. Sender will be other subjects that will be addressed in the new cinema-forum.
