The waters of Benalmádena will host this weekend the traditional ILCA Master Regatta, better known for Pureta’s Cup, which is aimed at veteran sailors over 35 years old, the minimum age required to take part in this competition.
At the presentation ceremony of the regatta, sponsored by the Malaga Provincial Council and the Benalmádena Sports Port, the manager of the marina from Benalmádena, Manuel J. Jiménez, and Sergio González, manager and sports director of the Club Náutico Marítimo were present. local.
Jiménez has underlined the intention of the Puerto Deportivo to continue collaborating in the promotion of nautical sports, and recalled that the Port and the Nautical Club jointly develop around 16 regattas a year, which makes the local port enclave one of the which has a broader sports calendar in our environment.
This regatta will be held on October 30 and 31, and November 1, and, according to municipal sources, it is expected that more than thirty sailors from all over Spain and some neighboring countries will participate.
“Ultimately, what it is about is working to promote sailing, not only through the organization of this kind of competition, but also through the courses and activities of the Municipal Nautical School. We try to make a port open to everyone in which everyone has access to sailing ”, he stressed.
For his part, Sergio González, manager and sports director of the Club, has emphasized the unique character of the ILCA Master Regatta (Laser Class): “It is the fact that it is for people over 35 is what makes it truly different” .
In addition, González wanted to remember that this year, for the first time, this regatta ends the Mar de Alborán circuit for veteran sailors, a circuit of three regattas jointly organized by the Puerto de Almerimar and the Puerto Deportivo de Benalmádena.
