The Arroyo de la Miel Public Library takes up the meetings of its reading clubs, which number seven in total and are held in Spanish, English and Finnish. The clubs are open to all citizens and are a group of people who meet periodically to comment on a book, which they can find in the Library, and who have read at the same time at home. In these meetings, not only the work is discussed from a literary point of view, but the reflections and feelings that the plot, the characters or the theme of the book elicit, and they become an excellent alternative to socialize, meet people with common interests and practice languages.
To participate in any of them, prior registration in the Libraryis necessary and in accordance with the new health recommendations, the capacity has been expanded and a maximum of 20 people can participate in each session.
In this way, the Read On! Club, coordinated by Elise Freedman and aimed at English speakers, opened this cycle last Tuesday with the debate around the work The Only Woman in the Room by Marie Benedict. This reading club, which has been active for more than a decade, is open to all citizens who share a taste for literature in the English language and meets on the first Tuesday of each month.
The Felipe Orlando Reading Club, coordinated by Mireia Ramón and whose meetings are the first Wednesday of each month, took over yesterday and its members debated the title Invisible by Paul Auster.
Olga López de Lerma coordinates the Zenobia Camprubí Club, with an appointment on the second Tuesday of each month and meets this October on the 14th to talk about Yasmina Khadra’s work Las golondrinas de Kabul.
On the third Friday of the month, graphic novel fans have an appointment with the comic club Víctor Mora and José Ramón Martínez Verastegui, its coordinator. TheIncal by Alejandro Jodorowsky and Moebius, is the work chosen for the meeting on October 15.
On the other hand, the Finnish public has its own reading club, which has been active since 2011, the Minna Canth club. Their meetings are the third Wednesday of the month, the next appointment will be Wednesday, October 20.
The reading of self-knowledge, psychology and personal development is the protagonist of the club Aprende a leerte, which coordinates, on the fourth Thursday of the month, Olga Prieto. At the meeting on October 28, The good thing about having a bad day from Anabel González will be discussed.
Jesús Majada leads Encounter with the Classics, another of the clubs in Spanish where books are analyzed that, due to their literary value, have become classics of literature. The meetings of this club take place on the fourth Tuesday of each month and on October 26, the attendees will debate on Insolation by Emilia Pardo Bazán.
To the monthly meetings of the reading clubs are added the Vivir el arte, Sintfonía and Ante todo, respira. With a very different theme, the first one is designed to enjoy art with the five senses. On the second Wednesday of each month, Pablo Rodríguez Guy, a painter based in Benalmádena, coordinates this workshop on art. The first date of this season will be on October 13.
Sintfonía, a musical appreciation workshop where, in an entertaining and participatory way, there will be a tour of the musical styles and forms of each artistic era by Juan Ramón Hernández on the first Thursday of the month.
Practicing mindfulness, learning to live in the present moment, without anxiety about the future and without indulging in pleasant or unpleasant memories is the objective of the workshop Ante todo, repira, which is coordinated by Gracia Codes on the third Thursday of the month.
