The theater bursts into the Casa de la Cultura this weekend with ‘Lázaro de Tormes’ and ‘Tenorio’ in humorous terms

This weekend a new edition ofBenalmádena’s Theater and Humor program returns to the Casa de la Cultura, with two plays that will be staged on Friday 28 and Saturday 29 January from 8:00 p.m.

According to the Councilor for Culture, Pablo Centella, in this edition “we will once again have two very entertaining plays: on Friday 28th Lázaro de Tormes will be performed by Pata Teatro, and on Saturday 29th Tenorioby La Cueva Teatro, two great classics adapted with great quality”. In both, all health safety regulations in the face of covid will be strictly complied with, as has been done in all events organized by the City Council.

The life of Lázaro serves as a chronicle to stage an era, the Spanish Golden Age, where the spectators who come this Friday to enjoy this work of Pata Teatro will be able to see its protagonist grow up: a rogue who fate takes from master to master, suffering misfortunes from his birth next to the Tormes river, through his miserable childhood, until his marriage, already in adulthood.

This is one of the most widely read works of our Spanish literature due to its originality, its human value and its literary and cultural significance.

In this theatrical adaptation, the essence and social criticism of the original are preserved, showing, through humor and irony, a clear and transparent reflection of the society of the time. It stands as a brilliant and agile comedy that is a jewel of humor and picaresque and one of the best comedies of our Spanish Golden Age.

On Saturday 29, the program Theater and Humor offers Tenorio de La Cueva Teatro, a version of this classic with a lot of humor.

Tenorio invites the public to reflect on the figure of the character ofDon Juan, through a current look and with a gender perspective. Three performers without classic costumes and an unconventional set design from which they recreate places and objects from cartoon mimicry. A review of the myth of the eternal gallant without technical complications, respecting the verse and the very essence of the original text, and with the primary intention of making the viewer laugh.

Although there will be no price for tickets, the City Council collaborates with this program with social entities of the municipality, and for this reason, according to Centella, on this occasion a contribution of 3 euros will be requested for theBenalmádena Animalist Group (GAB).

Tickets can be picked up at the Casa de la Cultura, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., on the 26th and 27th and, if there are any leftovers, on the same days of the performance one hour before its start.

Centella stressed that “for this government team, the promotion of theater is essential: in our city the performing arts have deep roots, an aspect that we promote from the local administration with initiatives such as the Teaching Centers Theater Show.”

It should be remembered that last year this cultural activity could not be organized due to the pandemic and also, when the House of Culture was under construction.
