The projectrelated to elimination of the avenue of palm trees from avenida Antonio Machado in Benalmádena Costa is currently in the contracting process pending publication, in order for those companies wishing to carry out the work to attend, and work is expected to start before the next summer period. This is the information that was provided in the last plenary session, held just a few days ago, in response to different questions posed regarding this project by Citizens and PP.
As stated by the local government, “the works are under contract and the eviction of trees will begin when the works are awarded and start, but it will foreseeably be before next summer.”
Regarding the relocation of the almost 300 palm trees on Antonio Machado avenue, they indicated that “the different destinations are being studied because, since there are many, they cannot all be taken to the same place.”
This project, whose budget of600,000 euros It has already been approved by the Plenary with the votes against the opposition, nor does it have the support of Ecologists in Action or the neighborhood group that makes up the platform No to the single lane of the Coast, although it does with that of the plenary majority of the municipal corporation of the Benalmádena City Council.
The members of the citizen platform held a meeting a few days ago with the mayor, Víctor Navas, as well as several councilors and technicians. Both parties agree that “the atmosphere was cordial” and that “neither compromised” in their purposes.
On the one hand, the neighborhood platform does not want in any way that the traffic lane and the palm tree median be eliminated and on the other, the local government sees it necessary to undertake the remodeling of the Benalmádena coast, what idea in what the remodeling of traffic refers to include the creation of a lane for new mobility: bicycle and non-polluting vehicles.
For their part, ecologists sent a letter to the City Council in which they asked for more information about the project and that “what reconsider and allocate that investment to renaturalize the urban centers of Benalmádena “ while “they do not understand the need to modify an already established and functional area with a green median”.
