They achieve 200,000 euros to develop pilot projects for Benalmádena in the Spanish Urban Agenda

The mayor of Benalmádena, Víctor Navas; and the Councilor for General Administration, Sergio Torralvo, announced this morning that the City Council has obtained 200,000 eurosfor the development of pilot projects for local action of the Spanish Urban Agenda.

The project is co-financed by the Benalmádena City Council and its cost amounts to a total of € 242,000.

According to municipal sources, the Government of the nation, with the support of European funds, has launched the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan to help public administrations and companies to reactivate the productive fabric after the economic crisis and caused by the pandemic.

In this sense, as the mayor has pointed out, “through these funds, municipalities have the opportunity to plan the city model for which we are working for the future: as a government team, in Benalmádena we leave nothing to chance , and there is always prior work and meticulous planning by municipal technicians in close collaboration with the municipal government, raised after an active listening to the citizens ”.

Navas insisted that “we have always been clear that the planning of our city model must have citizen participation as one of its basic pillars, as we have already done in the elaboration of our Urban Strategy for Sustainable Development (Edusi).” However, both the group of residents belonging to the platform No to the single lane –with more than 4000 members- and the PP blame it for “not constituting the citizen assembly” so that they can participate and contribute to the project related to European funds of the Edusi.

Navas, for his part, explained that “now we have obtained funds, through an order from the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, to draft our urban agenda, a basic document when it comes to accessing the European funds that are going to be put ongoing for the next few years ”.

In this sense, as he assures, it is multi-year plans based on sustainable development goals: “After the recent Glasgow Summit, the little margin available and the urgency of combating climate change has become more than clear, and for this reason we are working so that public administrations are the driving forces behind the engine of change towards a greener economy and sustainable ”.

“In this sense, Benalmádena is not going to be left behind: we are already working decisively to achieve the objectives of the 2030 Agenda, preparing the necessary documents that allow us to access these European funds,” he insisted.

“We are very satisfied to be one of the only three city councils in the province, together with Vélez-Málaga and Torremolinos, to be able to access the first call for funds for the drafting of our urban agenda, receiving 200,000 euros for this purpose, which will be used to start a process of participation and active listening for the planning of the city model that we want for the future of our city ”, the mayor highlighted.

Within the range of cities between 50,000 and 100,000 inhabitants, only 22 Spanish towns have received these grants, among which is Benalmádena.

The 2030 Agenda, according to municipal sources, allows organizing ideas and approaches in order to improve the city, and coordinating the different local policies in terms of urban planning, the environment or social promotion, in order to rethink how to improve the urban model, “counting for this with the participation of citizens and social agents such as companies, third sector and associative fabric “, explained Torralvo.

“This aid will allow us to carry out a diagnosis of Benalmádena in order to determine the sustainable development objectives set by the EU, such as improving sustainability, or optimizing public services through new information technologies. ”, Said the Councilor for General Administration, Sergio Torralvo.
